The hiking trails in Ons start at the information point next to the boarding pier and end at Curro, the most inhabited part of the island. They are all circular routes. I hope you enjoy your visit.

South Route, the Buraco do Inferno

We start from the boarding dock passing through Curro to the crossroads where all the routes begin. We will head south passing by the beach of Aera dos Cans, as soon as we pass it, if we look about 80 meters towards the coast we will find a group of rocks where O Laxe do Crego is located, an atropomorphic sarcophagus object of multiple legends. If we continue along the path, we will find Canexol beach, currently in a recovery phase. The houses that we find on the way, are mostly inhabited, form the neighborhood of Canexol and Pereiró.
After about 45 minutes of walking, we arrive at the Fedorentos viewpoint, with spectacular views of the southern coast of Galicia, of the Isla de Onza just in front and in the background, the Cíes Islands. Returning to the road, we arrive at Buraco do Inferno (1h 30 min) where we can appreciate the consequences of the constant onslaught of waves on the rocks. We will continue along the coast until we reach the Caniveliñas cove, when we reach the source we will see the Curro at the bottom and we will take the detour to the right that will take us back.
Variants: If we continue straight ahead, we will take the lighthouse route.
North Route, towards Melide beach
Distance: 8.1 km / Duration: 3 h / Difficulty: Medium / Slope: 100 meters

We start from the boarding dock passing through Curro to the crossroads where all the routes begin. We will take the only paved track that reaches the Ons Lighthouse, passing through some houses that still have their granaries where they used to store their crops, shortly after, we will find a path that divides into two, we will take the first one, to our right, we will ascend about 300 meters until we find another track, the one that comes from the Caniveliñas cove, there we will continue north, until we reach the highest point of the itinerary, we will be able to enjoy spectacular views, it will have taken about 40 min. We will continue the walk with the Atlantic Ocean in the background, with good weather, we will be able to see the Island of Sálvora and the entrance of the Ría de Arousa.
Halfway there we have the Fonte do Gaiteiro, we can take the opportunity to refresh ourselves, here the descent begins, arriving at a crossroads, where to the left we will go to the Punta Centolo viewpoint (15 min). After about 2 hours of travel we will be able to see more closely the Island of Sálvora, A Lanzada, the Pontevedra estuary, the Aldán estuary, Costa da Vela, Onza and the Cíes Islands in the background. We are in a breeding area for European Shags and Yellow-legged Gulls, which are the most abundant birds in the National Park. This viewpoint is closed to the public from February 15 to July 31.
If we return to the path we will go down to Melide Beach, currently nudist, we will continue bordering the east of the island until we reach the starting point again.
Ruta do Faro, part of the North Route

We start from the boarding dock passing through Curro to the crossroads where all the routes begin. To our right we will see the first houses on the island, near them the first salting factory was located, later the Riobó family, who owned the island, settled there. Passing the crossroads to the left that accesses the camping area, we will find willows and blackthorns, they are the existing native vegetation. A few meters later, we will arrive at the neighborhood of Cucorno, in the background, the Faro de Ons, currently it is not possible to access the enclosure unless expressly authorized. A few meters later we can access the heliport, from there we will better appreciate the Lighthouse, located 119 meters above sea level, it has been working since 1926 and today it is one of the few occupied by lighthouse keepers.

We have been on our way for 1 hour returning to Curro through a track heading east, behind us. At the next detour, we will turn to the left and in 5 minutes, we will arrive again at the paved track from the beginning.
Route of the Castelo, the shortest
Distance: 1.1 km / Duration: 40 minutes / Difficulty: Low / Slope: 33 meters

We start as usual from the boarding dock passing through Curro to the information point. Going up the stairs next to the fountain, between trees, we will pass by some wooden tables, leaving them to the left to start the path heading north, we will cross through willows that indicate the presence of fresh water, which by the way, unlike Cíes , in Ons fresh water is abundant.
Traveling about 15 minutes we will arrive at the Castelo viewpoint, an old defensive fortification where we will enjoy views of the entire Galician coast. Retracing our steps, we will return to one of the main tracks, after 7-8 minutes we can rest in a small forest of willows where there is a rest area and the Castelo fountain, to enjoy good shade and the silence of nature. .
Going down the track in a southerly direction, we will arrive back at the town.
